Natural sandstone block retaining walls have been used to tier this sloping property in Samford Valley. This is in the City of Moreton Bay north of Brisbane near Samford, Highvale, Albany Creek and Eaton’s Hill.
The property features a set of twelve double-width, diamond cut sandstone steps. These provide access to the tennis court and lower landscaped level. The sandstone stairs also beautifully complement the sandstone retaining walls.

Some “before” images
The building pad on this sloping block was originally edged with a low retaining wall of natural granite boulders. While these did the job, the owners were looking for a neater solution which could provide more defined stairway access to the lower level of the property as well as some clearly defined garden spaces.

Diamond Cut Sandstone Block Stairs
Diamond cut sandstone steps add the finishing touches to any sandstone block retaining wall project. Compared to wheel sawn sandstone steps, diamond cut stairs are much sharper looking and provide a contrast to the natural-looking sandstone blocks.
A total of 24 blocks was used to achieve 12 wide steps in this grand looking approach to the home.
